Welcome Back to School!!!

October 2008

Dear AEIS Community,

It is a pleasure to inform you about the activities that our school will organize during this month dedicated to the Honduran founding father Francisco Morazan, the hero for all Honduran generations and an example who defended the right of freedom and unity in the Americas. This month is full of activities.

The Honduran holiday of October 3rd, 2008 has been transferred to October 6th, 2008, so there was no class session. Also, there was no school holiday for the observance of Columbus Day on October 12th because it falls on a Sunday.

On October 3rd, AEIS awarded to the junior student Miguel Solis a diploma and an Honor plaque from the Mathletics of International Schools sponsored by Cartoon Network and 3P Learning as he is on the top 10 winners’ list for the Americas. More than two thousand students from American international schools participated in the competition. Congratulations to Mr. Solis. This is a fact that AEIS students can do everything possible with dedication and inspiration.

During October 8th to 10th, 2008 six AEIS junior students were invited from the National University to translate for American journalist Dr. Paul Stukenbruck who provided a conference to the student body of the School of Journalism of the university. Also, Dr. Stukenbruck visited our campus and provided a speech to the AEIS student body about the “generalities of journalism”.

On October 17th, twelve AEIS students participated in the ANEPBH Drawing Contest. They did great work in the contest.

On October 18th, the sophomore students took the American PSAT assessment. I want to inform that PSAT student grades will be mailed soon and students may start preparing for future U.S. standardized tests.

Additionally, classes for the second quarter starts on October 20th, 2008. Moreover, on October 31st, parents will be able to request student grades of the first quarter.

Finally, I want to mention that the students that will attend the Model United Nations in Chicago are now getting ready for such a unique conference with emphasis in politics, diplomacy, and foreign affairs. Also, the MUN student group will work in partnership with an American and German school with different tasks related to the problems that face the world. This is a unique opportunity that promotes global understanding and multiculturalism for the student participants. AEIS MUN student group will work with students from Marianapolis Preparatory School of Connecticut, United States and Sankt Hildegardis Gymnasium of Duisburg, Germany.

I am happy to write the first message for the present school year, and I wish the best to the student body for this academic year.

Best wishes,

The Head of School

Dear AEIS Parents, Staff, and Students,

The last three months have been of big progress and success within AEIS school activities. I want to congratulate the active students for their collaboration on every single AEIS activity.

In November, our school joined to the list of American international schools and American embassies abroad that celebrated the International Education Week, with the collaboration of the United States Department of State and the United States Department of Education. The objective of the International Education Week is the exchange of ideas and opinions between Americans and their foreign counterparts. During the celebration, AEIS had the distinguished visit of the Vice Consul of the American Embassy in Honduras, Mr. Curtis Whitacker. Mr. Whitacker discussed with High School students about the similarities and differences between the American and Honduran democratic system. Also, AEIS celebrated Thanksgiving Day with several activities, including snack sharing and others. Additionally, on November 6th, there were no classes because our faculty attended the CAD training conference.

In December, the AEIS Choir Group participated in the Christmas Festival at the City Mall. I want to congratulate the choir group for their amazing presentation during the wonderful Christmas time.

In January, our Model United Nations delegation was preparing batteries for the MUN conference in Chicago, U.S.A. A few days prior to the AEIS delegation’s departure, the delegation had the distinguished visit of the Economic Counselor of the American Embassy in Honduras, Mr. Robert Armstrong. Mr. Armstrong shared with our students his ideas and opinions about the Declination in Labor Productivity and CAFTA’s advantage, one of the topics that would be discussed during the MUN conference. Our MUN delegation enjoyed Mr. Armstrong’s presentation.

Last week, our AEIS delegation participated in the Model United Nations conference hosted by the University of Chicago. Our nine student- delegation did a good job. AEIS was one of the five American international overseas schools participating in the conference, added to the 150 U.S. schools. Moreover, our committee for the Organization of American States shared interesting proposals to other committees. Some topics discussed were about the gangs in Central America, international space law, etc. Albert Einstein International School participates every year in the Model United Nations conference in Chicago, U.S.A.

Another important event was the Spelling Bee contest on February 25th. The coming important events will be the “AEIS Idol” and the Science Fair Week in March, where our students will demonstrate their best talents & knowledge and fight for the first place. I wish the best to all participants.

I encourage to all students to study hard and participate in our available extra-curricular activities. Happy Saint Patrick’s Day!!!

The Head of School.
